The MB&F M.A.D.1 is the watch that let a whole new tier of collectors put a piece of Maximilian Busser's mechanical imagination on the wrist for CHF 2,900 instead of six figures. Busser founded MB&F (Maximilian Busser & Friends) in 2005, and for years he sat on the idea of a sister brand at an accessible price. In June 2021 he finally pulled the trigger, launching M.A.D.Editions (the M.A.D. stands for Mechanical Art Devices, the same name behind his M.A.D.Galleries) with a single email to suppliers and collectors and no press push at all. The M.A.D.1 reads the time on two revolving aluminium cylinders mounted laterally along the case perimeter, hours on one drum and minutes on the other, tracked by a pointer between the lower lugs. Sitting on top, fully visible under a domed sapphire, is a triple-blade winding rotor in titanium and tungsten that spins fast and glows on cue.
