Rolex Cellini

The Rolex Cellini collection (1968 to 2023) represented the Crown's dedicated dress watch line, standing apart from the brand's legendary Oyster-cased sport and tool watches. Named after Benvenuto Cellini (1500 to 1571), the Florentine Renaissance goldsmith whose autobiography remains one of the great documents of the period, the collection was crafted exclusively in 18k gold or platinum. From Gerald Genta's avant-garde King Midas to the poetically beautiful Moonphase with its meteorite-adorned enamel disc, the Cellini embodied artistic excellence over utilitarian function. Rolex retired the Cellini name in 2023, replacing it with the Perpetual 1908 collection. Today, discontinued Cellini references represent arguably the most undervalued segment of the entire Rolex catalog, offering solid gold Swiss craftsmanship and Superlative Chronometer precision at prices that frequently trade near their precious metal melt value.
