Patek Philippe Aquanaut Travel Time 5164A-001

Known as Aquanaut Travel Time (steel)

The 5164A-001 is the steel Aquanaut Travel Time: a dual-time-zone Aquanaut with a black embossed dial on a matching black rubber strap. Patek introduced it in 2011, taking the sporty Aquanaut case and adding a genuine travel complication most people never expect on a rubber-strap watch. Two pushers on the left side of the case, at roughly 8 and 10 o'clock, jump the local hour hand forward and back one hour at a time, while the home hour hand stays put. Two apertures on the dial track AM/PM for local and home time so you always know whether it is day or night back where you came from. It is the watch a collector reaches for when he wants one steel Patek that covers a black-tie dinner in one city and a long-haul flight the next morning. We buy and sell it every week on 47th Street, and demand has never really cooled.

Produced: Introduced in 2011 and produced through the 2010s and into the 2020s as the steel Aquanaut Travel Time. Patek later expanded the Travel Time line with precious-metal versions such as the rose gold 5164R, but the black-dial steel 5164A-001 is the reference that built the model's reputation. Supply on the primary market has always trailed demand, which is why almost all trading in this watch happens on the secondary market.

Market & Value

This is a watch that trades well above its Patek retail. List price at the boutique landed in the low-to-mid $40,000s, but you have never been able to walk in and buy one at that number without a relationship and a wait. On the open market the 5164A-001 has traded in the high five figures to well into six figures depending on year, condition, and whether it is a full set with box and papers. As of mid-2026 we see clean, complete examples changing hands in roughly the $85,000 to $125,000 range, with the strongest money going to unworn or near-unworn full sets. Values ran hotter at the 2021 to 2022 peak and have settled off those highs, but the floor on a good steel Aquanaut Travel Time has stayed firm because the model is not easy to replace. Box, papers, extra strap, and an unpolished case all move the number. We write real checks on these, so when we quote you a buy price it is what we will actually pay that day, not a chart figure.

What to Know Before You Buy

A few things a buyer should keep straight on this reference. First, it is a true Travel Time, not a simple GMT: the local hand jumps in one-hour steps using the case pushers while the date at 6 o'clock follows local time, so the watch resets cleanly the moment you land. Second, the dial has applied white gold numerals and the signature embossed Aquanaut pattern; a soft or printed-looking dial is a red flag. Third, the caliber 324 S C FUS is Patek's workhorse automatic adapted for the Travel Time module, visible through the sapphire back with its 21K gold rotor. Fourth, the rubber strap is a genuine Patek part and wears better than people expect, but original straps and clasps matter for value, so keep any spares. Fifth, on resale, box and papers plus an unpolished case make a real difference; a redialed or over-polished example gives up serious money. If you are unsure whether a dial or movement is correct, bring it to us before you buy or sell.
