Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo 16202ST

Known as Royal Oak "Jumbo" Extra-Thin, 50th Anniversary

The 16202ST is the modern Royal Oak "Jumbo" Extra-Thin in stainless steel, launched in 2022 for the Royal Oak's 50th anniversary. It carries the same 39mm case that Gerald Genta drew for the original 5402ST in 1972: 39mm across, 8.1mm thick, the integrated tapered bracelet, the octagonal bezel held down by eight white gold hex screws. What changed is under the caseback. The 16202 retired the ultra-thin Calibre 2121, the Jaeger-LeCoultre-derived movement that ran the Jumbo for five decades, and replaced it with Audemars Piguet's fully in-house Calibre 7121. The dial is the "Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50" Petite Tapisserie with white gold applied markers and Royal Oak hands. This is the watch that, for most collectors, is the reference Royal Oak: the thin one, the right size, the shape that started the entire integrated-bracelet luxury sport category.

Produced: Introduced 2022, in current production. The .01 anniversary-rotor version was a 2022-only run; the .02 standard-rotor version has been the running production model from 2023.

Market & Value

Boutique retail sits around $40,100 as of mid-2026, but almost nobody buys one at the counter. Steel Jumbos are allocation watches: you either have a relationship with an AP boutique or you pay the secondary market. As of July 2026 clean examples trade roughly in the low-to-mid $70,000s, with dealer asks stretching toward $100,000 on the 2022 .01 with the "50 Years" rotor and full stickers. That is a premium of roughly 80% to 100% over list, which tells you exactly how tight supply is. The .01 anniversary rotor commands a modest bump over the .02 among collectors who care about the 2022-only detail, but both track the same demand curve. This is a watch we write real checks for every week, and the number moves; if someone quotes you a flat figure without seeing the watch, condition, and paperwork, they are guessing.

What to Know Before You Buy

Three things separate a strong 16202 from an average one. First, papers and the full 2022 anniversary presentation matter on the .01; the "50 Years" rotor is the whole point of that variant, so a mismatched or serviced-out rotor kills the premium. Second, condition on the bezel and the first bracelet links is everything on a Jumbo, because the polished bevels show every desk-diving mark and a bad refinish permanently softens Genta's edges. Third, know which reference you are actually looking at: the .01 and .02 are visually identical on the dial side, and the only tell is the caseback rotor, so verify it in person or on clear photos before you agree a price. The Calibre 7121 is a genuine upgrade over the old 2121, with a longer 55-hour reserve and modern serviceability, so the movement change is a plus, not a compromise. Full set with box, warranty card, and the original purchase documentation is what moves a 16202 at the top of the range.
