Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding 37 15450ST

Known as The 37mm Royal Oak, the mid-size steel Selfwinding

The 15450ST is the 37mm stainless steel Royal Oak Selfwinding with date, introduced in 2012 alongside the 41mm 15400ST when AP retired the long-running 39mm 15300. Think of it as the same watch as the 15400, shrunk 4mm. Same octagonal bezel with eight hexagonal screws, same integrated tapisserie-era case, same in-house automatic. It just wears smaller. For years dealers slotted it as the ladies' or small-wrist Royal Oak, but that framing sold it short. On a 6.5 to 7 inch wrist it reads as a proper unisex sports watch, and the 37mm case is arguably closer to Gerald Genta's original 1972 39mm 5402 than the 41mm ever was. When AP discontinued it in 2022 and replaced it with the 15550ST, demand did not soften. It hardened. This is the reference collectors reach for when the 41mm eats their wrist.

Produced: 2012 to 2022, replaced by the 15550ST which brought a slimmer case and the newer Caliber 5900

Market & Value

This is one of the steel Royal Oaks that quietly outperformed. When it was current, retail sat in the neighborhood of $19,900 to $20,600 depending on the year. Today the discontinued 15450ST trades on the secondary market roughly in the $38,000 to $44,000 range for clean examples with box and papers, and per WatchCharts data it climbed about 18% over the trailing year while the broader AP index moved single digits. It sells fast: median time to sell has run around three weeks, faster than most of the market, with a low risk profile. Why the strength? Supply is now fixed, the 37mm size has swung firmly back into fashion, and the 15550ST that replaced it carries a full retail-plus premium of its own, which pulls the older reference up with it. Papered pieces, the blue dial in particular, command the top of the band. Non-papered or heavily polished examples sit lower and are where a buyer with patience finds value. Prices we quote here move with the market, so treat any range as a starting point and call for the number on your specific dial and condition.

What to Know Before You Buy

First, size is the whole story with this reference. At 37mm and 9.8mm thick it wears markedly smaller than the 41mm 15400ST, and that is either exactly what you want or exactly what you don't. Try it on before you commit. Second, confirm the dial variant against the reference suffix, because the blue .03 and silver .01 carry different demand and different money. Third, check the bracelet screws and clasp for stretch and the case for over-polishing; the Royal Oak's sharp brushed-and-polished facets are the first thing a heavy hand ruins, and a softened bezel edge kills value fast. Fourth, box and papers matter here more than on many references because the buyer pool skews toward collectors who resell. Fifth, the Caliber 3120 is a proven, robust movement with a 60-hour reserve, but an AP service is not cheap, so factor a service history into what you pay. Genuine parts and AP-trained watchmakers only on a Royal Oak.
